# [Campaigns] What Is Category-Level Bidding?

In addition to campaign-level bid targets, Criteo permits bid customization for each product category associated with a campaign.

For example, you may wish to set higher bids for particular brands or product lines.

Categories used for bidding must be added as the `categoryid1` field when configuring the import of your [product catalog](https://support.criteo.com/s/article?article=360001387669-Criteo-Feed-Specification-Retail\&language=en_US).

Category-level bidding must also be explicitly enabled by your Criteo account team.

  Category-level bidding is a legacy feature. Newer, [better performing bidding models](https://support.criteo.com/s/article?article=transitioning-automated-bidding-models\&language=en_US) are available for product-level bid optimization.
